Abstract: This paper analyses four audiovisual products in fiction se-

ries format produced in Spain in recent years and broadcast on free-
to-air television or video-on-demand platforms that have been suc-

cessful in terms of critics and audiences. The general objective is to

study the representations that the series project in terms of women,
gender roles and the treatment of classic motherhood, alternative

models and non-motherhood. The tools used to obtain data were

a documentary review of promotional material and a critical analy-

sis of the discourse from a feminist perspective of the episodes that

conform the series. The results indicate that, although the tradition-
al patriarchal approach is still present, in these productions there is

space for alternative and novel representations of the roles played by

women and the way in which they decide to face motherhood. This
results in complex and strong female characters whose behaviour

does not correspond to the patterns of classic fiction.
