This special issue of Women’s Studies: an interdisciplinary journal invites submissions that address how women in contemporary Spain challenge the political system and claim space in the public sphere. We are especially interested in work that questions traditional neoliberal narratives of the Transition period and beyond, as well as scholarship that engages contemporary discourse around national identity, cultural memory and/or political practices in Spain. Submissions should approach the topic from either a scholarly or practical (pedagogical or activist) perspective.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: cultural studies pedagogies; democracy; domestic labor; economic precarity; environmental justice; gender and media; immigration and immigrant rights; politics of language; legacy of the Transition; personal as political; public activism; racism and racial justice; reproductive justice; resurgence of the extreme right. Interested parties should submit a C.V. and a 400-600-word abstract/proposal, as well as any questions, to Novia Pagone (npagone@govst.edu) by October 15, 2021. Proposals should indicate the projected length of your submission, framework of inquiry, and the questions or key ideas you wish to address. Notifications will be sent by October 30th, with articles due for peer-review by January 3, 2022
